I’ve been seeing lots of job search posts talking about job seekers sending in 100s or even thousands of applications - but why? If hitting the Apply button feels so good, it' really makes you feel pretty bad the day after.
Don’t DO IT. 🛑 Stop cold applying as a strategy
UNLESS you are getting interviews from cold applying, don’t rely on it as your main strategy. It does not work for everyone.
If you’ve been basing your job search on ‘hitting that apply button’, it’s a losing game. You will only experience lots of frustration.
Apply as a last resort
While you can still send out applications left and right, applying with the intention of landing a job in a few months is an empty cause.
Use the application process to ‘research who is hiring’ and engage in networking with people at those companies instead. There are many ways to engage, that’s what networking is all about!
As a rule, apply to jobs only when you get responses to your outreach.
If you want to apply first and then get referrals, that OK too, but reset your expectations that applications do not ❌ equal interviews. You might even get surprised when you do get an interview without networking 😉
