😳 Tired of the grind? Create a 10 hr job search
Job searching is tiring! Let's make it better.
Job search going badly? Here's the proven way to turn it around.
The job search includes a long list of activities:
Finding jobs to apply for
Applying to jobs
Sending messages to new people
Chatting with new people
Asking for referrals
Connection calls
Interviewing
Revising your resume and LinkedIn
Working on new projects or portfolio pieces
Posting on LinkedIn
Engaging with people on Linkedin through comments or DM
All these activities take time and it’s easy to get lost in it all, spending hours applying, or worse, messaging people and not getting any responses.
Want a better job search experience without the stress?
Structure your time to make the best use of your daily effort
When you're spending week after week applying but not getting any interviews or even feedback - try this:
Spend 10% of your time applying to jobs (that means no more than 2 hours per week)
Spend 40% of your time networking (DM, connection calls, reviewing Linkedin feed for people who are hiring, about 4 hours per week)
Spent 20% of your time on connection calls or interviewing (around 2-3 hours per week)
Spend 10% of your time engaging on Linkdin (around 1 hr per week, can be 15 min per day)
Spend 10% of your time for interview prep (around 1 hour per week)
The 10 hr job search looks like this:
Mon + Wed ➡️ Apply to jobs 1 hr per day, 20-40 jobs a day = 40+ jobs a week
Tues, Wed, Thurs ➡️ Networking with new people, friends, family, 1 hr per day, 30 new people min = connect with 90 new people per week
M-F ➡️ Connection calls and interviews can happen anytime during the week, usually 2-3 hours per week including research into the person’s background and company
Mon, Wed, Thurs ➡️ Engage with people on Linkedin, add comments, your own posts, etc, about 1 hour total, limit your engagement to 15-30min per day
Total time: about 8-10 hours per week
You can adjust the schedule and timing of activities based on your lifestyle and personal schedule.
Prep work to prepare for this strategy
The 10 hours job search is possible only IF you have the following setup. The prep work involved takes about 5-10 hours, but is worth every second.
Identify what jobs are the best ones to apply for based on your qualifications, projects, work background and salary requirements
Identify your professional strengths based on projects and work experience
Identify one job description to use as a template to tailor resume and Linkedin for
Tailor resume for the role (1 resume per Job Title you apply for)
Tailor Linkedin profile for your target role (hit all the right keywords in your headline, about, experiences, skills)
Message templates to message new people (re-use templates to reach out more people, quickly)
Calendly link to make scheduling connection calls easy
Now you’re set to setup the 10 hr job search!
Anna, the post is so useful. Thank you for your wonderful guidance.
Does the same schedule apply for people who are working on their career shift?
For example, I need to study and learn on the subject and gain new experiences through projects.
This naturtally adds a layer of complexity and stress.
How would you customize this schedule template?
