The job search is filled with confusion and misinformation - let’s clear some things up. After going through 7 job searches, I learned that there is very little information you can trust that doesn’t come from first-hand experience - and even then you may be playing into your fears.
Here are three job search rules that can change the game for you:
Rule #1
✅ IGNORE all auto-reply emails, also called 'rejection emails'.
NO JOKE, I got hired and then received one too. 😆 The emails you get that say you are “not moving forward” are a default message most companies use to clean up their applicant tracking system - usually, they are not an accurate assessment of your profile if they are sent from an automated no-reply email.
WHY ignore them?
1. They are meaningless
2. They have 0 personal information
3. They are NOT about you
What should you pay attention to?
Network with people at the company instead to learn if you are actually a match or NOT. It's not you, it's the system that's messed up. Don't buy into it.
Rule #2
✅ It's not you, it's the system that's messed up.
Don't buy into it. Don't blame yourself. Keep going no matter what.
Rule #3
✅ Talk about your job search with everyone, your parents, your partner, your workout mates.
This is not Fight Club 😅 ANYONE can help facilitate a connection. It just might not be the right connection 😆, that's why targeted networking is important!
Reach out to others in the role you want in the company that is hiring to express interest and get accurate information. Reach out to your connections on Linkedin to share your progress, news, life events. Reach out to your 3rd cousin to see if they can help. Just reach out.
If you found this helpful, share with a friend! 💜
Remember, no matter the time and place, people of all kinds are landing jobs, so keep going. 🚀
