In my coaching work with career changers, clients often ask me “How do I land more interviews?”
My answer to that question is two-fold:
Create more visibility 👀 to get more eyes on you
Network with new people at companies you know are hiring
This strategic approach to the job search sets up my clients for landing consistent interviews in their job search process.
You might be asking, That sounds great, but what can I DO to land interviews quickly?
4 ways to land interviews
Utilize your friends and family network
Comment/post/engage on Linkedin at least 3x week
Network weekly with new people to express interest in the role you found to get referrals and introductions
Follow and connect with recruiters, then comment on their posts when they have jobs posted
Utilize your friends and family network
Reach out to your friends, family, coworkers, acquaintances, etc to let them know you can use their help. The people you know TODAY. If you can contact them today, then they are in your network. These are friends, family, ex-coworkers, alumni, etc.
Engage on Linkedin 3x week
Linkedin rewards those who post, engage, and otherwise participate in the platform. You want to post about your work experiences, skills, personal hobbies, and job search.
Post a summary of your job search
Post about a project you’re working on
Post about your transferable skills
Post about your thoughts on a tool or process
The more you post on Linkedin, the easier it will get!
Network, a lot, every week
Finally, keep networking!
Ask for referrals
Ask for intros to other people
Ask for information on company culture
Connect on common interests
Early career roles are sometimes hard to find, so creating connections so that you are top of mind when roles do open up, is key for opening doors for yourself. Networking a lot also provides useful information on the job requirements, company culture, and benefits. Now more than ever it’s important to build a vast network of people within the tech space, learn from them, and ask for their support.
Engage with recruiters
Recruiters are very helpful in the job search since they can help get you hired! Start finding recruiters in different companies and engaging with them.
Ask to connect with them over DM
Follow them
Comment on their posts
Followup with them every couple of weeks
Email them if they are not active on Linkedin
Even if they are NOT responding, does not mean they didn’t see your message.
