Let’s get into it - those annoying ‘rejection’ emails that you get in response to your job applications - they are NOT for reals.
1️⃣ Companies use these emails for one main reason:
Clean up their hiring systems with any old applications or anyone not relevant to the job hiring pipeline.
When you receive this email, it can mean a couple of things:
Your application was not immediately relevant (3 seconds of review) to the role
Your application is to 3451st application and they aren’t reviewing any new ones
The hiring pipeline is full and no more applicants are being added
The job is no longer open
If you interviewed and the company doesn’t move you to the next round, they probably found a candidate more relevant than you
The company is cleaning out its applicant tracking system and moving all applicants to no longer active
OR anything else!
❌ What does this email NOT mean:
Someone truly reviewed your application in detail and thought deeply about how your skills are relevant.
UNLESS you have gone through at least ONE interview, your application is LIKELY to NOT be reviewied in detail.
IGNORE all auto-reply emails, also called 'rejection emails'.
NO JOKE, I got hired and then received one too. 😆 The emails you get that say you are “not moving forward” are a default message most companies use to clean up their applicant tracking system - usually, they are not an accurate assessment of your profile if they are sent from an automated no-reply email.
WHY ignore them?
1. They are meaningless to you without real feedback from a real person
2. They have 0 personal information
3. They are NOT about you
Instead, focus on building connections with people that can offer you feedback and information on what skills resonate with open positions so you can understand how to better market your skills to the job openings.
✅ Network with people at the company instead to learn if you are actually a match or NOT. It's not you, it's the system that's messed up. Don't buy into it.
✅ Post on Linkedin in order to stand out among the crowd
✅ Test new revisions to your resume and portfolio to increase your conversion rate and decrease those rejection emails
