Apply to that job anyways
Do you know the biggest job search challenge that has nothing to do with your ability, charm or talents?
Pressing that submit button.
While you may be talented, articulate, with years of experience, you may feel stuck when you see a job post. You may start wondering if it’s worth it to apply, is it relevant for you, do you have enough experience, and other doubts which ultimately lead you to ask yourself, are you worth it?
Point being, instead of applying for a job opening, you are engaging in an existential crises. So let’s back up and acknowledge why you are on the careers page in the first place.
The fact is, you are looking for a new job, not an identity. A job is one part of your life and does not define who you are and what you are worth. You may be looking for a new job for a number of reasons, such as better work/life balance, career growth, career change, better salary, etc.
Applying for jobs by submitting your resume is part of the process of putting your name on the list of candidates. Your job is to apply, not to evaluate the application, since that is the job of the company hiring.
Do you come across jobs that look like a fit, yet you don’t submit your resume?
Maybe it’s because you experience one or some of these thoughts:
You don’t match 100% of the job requirements
You don’t have direct experience in this field
You’re not sure if the company hires from certain countries
I say, apply to that job anyways!
Be aware of your doubts and thoughts, and apply to that job anyways.
The companies are not looking for a super hero, they are looking for humans that are willing and able to think, learn and communicate. And if you are one of those humans, you don’t have to fully match the job requirements or even have direct experience. A desire to explore a relationship with the company is enough, in this moment, to upload your resume and hit submit.
Now that you’ve done that, go outside, stretch, do something that makes you feel good. So that the next time you see a job post that you want to apply for, you connect the experience of hitting the submit button with an a bit of pleasure in your day.
