3 ways to land interviews through cold applying
There are two key strategies to the job search, first is applying through the apply links, another strategy is networking.
Today, we’ll cover the tactics that can get you interviews from using the strategy of directly applying on the company website or Linkedin. When using this strategy, all the tactics come down to how you create your resume.
Your resume is pivotal to getting interviews from applying to jobs. Why is the resume important?
It's the recruiter's first introduction to your professional self
It signals to the recruiter or hiring manager that you are a match for the role
It creates a career story the recruiter can use to move you forward in the recruiting process
If you are an early-mid career professional looking to land their first or second role, crafting a focused and relevant resume can be a struggle. You may be a career-switcher or are looking to switch roles within tech.
Maybe you've been applying and not getting the responses you want, or you send out resumes and network but still you're not landing enough interviews. On average, you want to aim for 1 interview request for every 10 jobs you apply for. At a minimum, this is a baseline for getting responses.

The top 3 ways to land interviews through cold applying are:
Focus your resume
Have a clear headline statement
Keep it short and focused on outcomes
Focus your resume
Have 15 yrs of experience? Do not list it all, Pick the most relevant accomplishments and highlights. Choose the most important outcomes to describe in short statements either in a separate section or connected to the job experience section.
Don’t have 1:1 experience but have relevant transferable skills? Great, highlight those transferable skills in their own section.
Have a focused mission statement
Do your research to get clear on what kind of company and work you prefer to do. Then create a statement that lists your interest in a company type, industry and/or type of work/projects you want to tackle in your next role. Add this statement to the top of your resume and Linkedin.
Keep it short and focused on outcomes
Feel like you can’t fit your resume on one page? Time to cut out some of the fluff, re-structure the resume and choose what to highlight - all on one page! Even if you don’t have years of experience, structure your resume so it’s talking about outcomes that the hiring manager cares about.
